Extending the scope and meaning of ‘parallel process’ into an organising principle for relational transformation

Workshop & SV Demonstration with Michael Soth

The notion of ‘parallel process’ has become a well-established concept in all kinds of supervision: the relational dynamics in one system are mirrored and paralleled in a connected system: the best-known instance is when the dynamic between client and therapist is replicated between therapist and supervisor. Parallel process can become a valuable source of information and reflection, as typically those dynamics which are being paralleled have been hidden and unacknowledged, but are charged and significant, providing important transformative potential.

I will describe my extended model of parallel process and show its application in a demonstration session with a participant.
